Whole Foods Announces Big Layoffs

Whole Foods Market announced plans to terminate about 1,500 employees, as part of the organic foods retailer’s efforts to cut operating costs. Also, the company said employees to be affected by the layoffs, which account for about 1.6 percent of the company’s total workforce, will be let go through normal attrition, with a significant number to be rehired for other jobs at its other stores. Whole Foods Market created 9,000 new jobs in the past year, and almost 35,000 over the past five years, the company said.
