April 2, 2016: 12:00 AM EST
Walmart plans to expand its operations in India’s Telangana state in 2016. As part of the retailer’s expansion plans, Walmart will open up to 15 new stores in the capital Hyderabad and the rest of the state. With all of the planned stores 100-percent owned by Walmart, each retail location will have about 50,000sq. ft. space with food products accounting for 50 percent of the more than 5,000 goods to be offered. Walmart will partner with local kirana store owners and encourage women entrepreneurs to set up mom-and-pop stores, according to Walmart India VP and corporate affairs head Rajneesh Kumar.
