Walgreens CEO Wasson To Step Down After Merger With Alliance Boots Is Completed

December 10, 2014: 12:00 AM EST
Greg Wasson, CEO of Walgreens drugstores and a 35-year veteran of the company, announced he will retire after shareholders vote on the merger with Alliance Boots. The decision to retire reverses an earlier announcement that he would stay on to lead the new company. Following the vote, set for December 29, Alliance Boots executive chairman Stefano Pessina, will serve as interim CEO of the new company, Walgreens Boots Alliance. Wasson joined Walgreens in 1980 as a pharmacy intern while still at Purdue University’s School of Pharmacy.
