Wal-Mart Reports Lower Same-Store Sales, Higher Total Sales For 2014 In Mexico

January 7, 2015: 12:00 AM EST
Wal-Mart de Mexico, the Mexican unit of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., reported sales grew 4.1 percent to 437.66 billion pesos, or $29.77 billion, in 2014, compared with the previous year. Known as Walmex, the business unit accounts for about 6 percent of the American retailer's annual sales and is one of the company's largest overseas operations. Walmex, however, failed to expand same-store sales during the period, with Mexico experiencing a slowdown in consumer spending and a weaker economy. Walmex also failed to reach its retail space expansion of 5.2 percent, reaching only 3.9 percent during the year.
