Wal-Mart De Mexico Posts Strong 1st Quarter Sales Growth

April 7, 2015: 12:00 AM EST
First quarter sales at retailer Wal-Mart de Mexico (Walmex) jumped 9.3 percent over last year to $7.4 billion. It was the biggest hike in sales since the third quarter of 2012, when the company posted an increase of 11 percent. It is welcome news for the company, whose territory includes Mexico and Central America, because it has been experiencing declining store visits and weak consumption in Mexico. Sales were up seven percent in Mexico and 23 percent in Central America.
