UK Supermarket Industry Posts Weak Growth In September 2015 Quarter

In the UK, the supermarket industry grew 0.9 percent for the quarter ending September 13, 2015, according to market research firm Kantar Worldpanel. Data from the company showed Sainsbury’s saw its sales grew 0.9 percent, holding on to its share of the market at 16.2 percent, while Tesco’s sales dropped 1 percent, with its market share declining 0.6 percentage points to 28.2 percent. Morrisons saw its share of the market contract by 1.4 percent to 10.7 percent. According to Kantar, the ongoing grocery price war is hampering market growth in the country.
