Tesco Sells South Korean Retail Unit

September 7, 2015: 12:00 AM EST
UK retailer Tesco Plc agreed to sell its South Korean business to a group of investors led by private-equity firm MBK Partners Ltd. Valued at $6.1 billion, the deal is the most significant step taken by the company under CEO Dave Lewis to reduce its debt and revive its business. Tesco will book a loss of about £150 million from the sale, which involves the largest and most profitable among the retailer’s overseas operations.
