Sainsbury's Plans To Transform Supermarkets Into Non-Food Stores

April 15, 2015: 12:00 AM EST
Sainsbury's plans to convert 1.5 million sq ft, or 6 percent, of its total retail space across the UK into non-food sales space. According to the supermarket chain, customers are switching their spending to convenience stores, discounters, and online stores. It plans to use half of the identified space to sell its private-label non-food products, such as kitchenware and houseware. Sainsbury's said it plans to sublet the remaining half of the space.
