Millennials Like Fast-Casual, And Convenience Store, Food

February 4, 2015: 12:00 AM EST

A large number of Millennials are fueling the trend away from fast food and toward more upscale fast-casual restaurants. But an even larger number are patronizing convenience stores, according to NPD Group. About 11.1 percent of Millennial food and beverage purchases took place at convenience stores in 2014, compared to 7.7 percent in 2006. Fast-casual accounted for 6.1 percent of Millennial stops in 2014 vs. 3.1 percent in 2006. NPD says Millennials are cheap, like anyone else. And they “get food as fuel” rather than “go out for exciting eating adventures”.
