Metro Cash & Carry Opens Store Number 22; Becomes Larger Wholesaler Than Walmart In India

August 10, 2016: 12:00 AM EST
Metro Cash & Carry opened a new cash-and-carry store in Bengaluru. With the store's opening, Metro now has 22 wholesale locations and has overtaken rival Walmart India's Best Price Modern Wholesale, which has 21 wholesale stores. Metro plans to have 50 stores by 2020; however, Walmart aims at having 70 locations by that year. Claiming it has higher revenues and stronger operating metrics, Metro said it is testing a delivery service for register customers in Jaipur.
