Major Retailers Take Diverging Steps in 1Q 2015

In the first quarter of 2015, Carrefour reported consolidated sales rose 6.2 percent, driven by strong performance in France and positive results in most markets. Wal-Mart announced various leadership changes, including the retirement of US EVP of grocery division Jack Sinclair and the departure of Chile CEO Gian Carlo Nucci. Also, Wal-Mart said it will remain focused on its e-commerce business. Tesco is in the middle of trying to turn its business around and is considering strategic options for its Dunnhumby unit and reorganizing its partnership with Kroger in the US. Metro Group partnered with German retailer Emmas Enkel and e-commerce site Shequ001.com in China.
