German discount retailer Lidl said it plans to open 280 stores across London and the M25 area. Aimed at the region’s middle-class shoppers, the proposed stores will be located in upmarket sites, including Kensington, Chiswick, Notting Hill, and Mayfair. Lidl’s UK expansion moves are part of the company’s goal of doubling its size to 1,500 stores from the current 629.
