Kroger Is Doing A Lot Of Things Right These Days

September 21, 2015: 12:00 AM EST
Kroger’s technology-savvy retail grocery strategy is paying off big in terms of both sales and profits. The acquisition of supermarket chain Harris Teeter, for example, gave the company access to the Express Lane “click and collect” service. The company has introduced a mobile app to improve interaction with customers. As a result, household engagement hit record levels in the second fiscal quarter. The company has launched an Internet of Things initiative to better monitor temperature in stores to lessen shrinkage, and reduce labor and energy use. Another successful strategy: a multi-tiered portfolio of private brands, including the billion-dollar Simple Truth and Simple Truth Organic brands.
