Ireland's Grocery Market Posts Strong Sales Growth In Quarter Ending May 2016

Ireland’s grocery market posted 4 percent growth in sales for the 12-week period ending May 22, 2016, compared with the same period in the previous year, according to Kantar Worldpanel. Data from the market research firm revealed the average household in the country increased spending by €50 on groceries, or a total of €89 million more for the market. Dunnes Stores was one of only two retailers to see sales grow faster than the rest of the market, with sales rising 8 percent and average shopper spending at €37.20. Lidl saw its sales grow the fastest, with 72.4 percent of all households shopping in one of its stores during the period.
