Haggen Buys 146 Stores From Much Larger Rival Retailers

December 26, 2014: 12:00 AM EST
Retail chain Haggen Inc. is acquiring 146 Vons, Pavilions, Albertsons, and Safeway stores, which means an 811 percent growth for the small retail chain from Bellingham, Washington. Including 83 stores in California, the purchase deal was made possible by the Federal Trade Commission's order requiring the sale as a condition for approving the merger of Albertsons and Safeway earlier in 2014. At present, Haggen operates 18 stores in Oregon and Washington.
