California Shop Offers Freshly-Prepared, Healthful Meals

April 11, 2015: 12:00 AM EST
A new entry in the fresh-prepared foods market in California is a shop that represents a burgeoning trend: fresh, non-processed, healthful ready-to-go meals. Technomic predicts that growth in the $26 billion fresh-prepared foods market is outpacing that of grocery food items and food service. Fit Eats is successfully catering to a slice of that market: the growing demand for healthy pick-up-and-go foods. Regular-sized meals, cooked in natural oils like olive or avocado, cost between $7 and $10. Each contains four ounces of lean meat, a half cup of starch, and one serving of vegetables, totaling 400 calories and one gram of salt. Owner Don Arnold says, "It's healthy meal prep, essentially. We're saving you time, saving you money, saving you energy."
