Brazil's Retailers Cope With Effects Of Economic Slowdown

September 3, 2015: 12:00 AM EST
Cencosud, Walmart, and other retailers in Brazil are struggling as the country’s economic slowdown continues. With revenue and supermarket same-store sales decreasing, Cencosud announced it has reduced the value of its assets in the country. Walmart reported comparable store and net sales dropped in the second quarter. Rival Carrefour, however, reported like-for-like sales grew 7.1 percent during the period. GPA also reported gains in sales despite consumers’ more cautious attitude.
