Belgium Sanctions Retailers And Suppliers For Price-fixing

June 22, 2015: 12:00 AM EST
Belgium's competition authority fined 17 supermarkets and suppliers a total of €174 million, or $198.2 million, for fixing the prices of healthcare products and toiletries. Carrefour SA and Colruyt SA face the biggest penalties, with Carrefour agreeing to pay €36.4 million and Colruyt, €31.6 million. According to the Belgian agency, price-fixing activities occurred during 2002 to 2007, with Colgate-Palmolive providing the information about the violations and, hence, escaping a penalty.
