December 29, 2015: 12:00 AM EST
British supermarket chain and online retailer Asda recounted significant consumer shopping behaviors in its end-of-a-prosperous-year report. Discounts on steak, wine and desserts drove a “huge increase in sales” at Valentine’s Day. The retail website George.com averaged 12,000 purchases a day during 2015, and there was a ten percent rise in springtime spending on gardens, plants, and flowers. Rugby World Cup season in the autumn saw a surge in party product sales, and Halloween saw a 12 percent increase in sales of costumes and “spooky foods.” Sales of Christmas pet costumes rose 45 percent and sales of Christmas jumpers were up 1,105 percent.
