Ahold Sales Up Slightly In 3rd Quarter

Dutch retailer Ahold reported third quarter sales of $9.4 billion, up 1.9 percent (1.5 percent at constant exchange rates). Third quarter profit was $222 million, an increase of 7.9 percent (8.5 percent at constant exchange rates). The company said sales improved in the Netherlands and in the U.S., where its Stop & Shop and Giant grocery stores contribute 60 percent of total company revenue, during the quarter. CEO Dick Boer said "ongoing investments in our customer proposition and further development of our formats and assortment will continue to result in improving sales trends”.
